Exxon-Mobile Protest

Dear Consumer,

As you have surely noticed, our gas prices have been inching closer to $4.00 per gallon on a daily basis. The oil industry maintains that gas prices remain and continue to elevate because of high crude oil prices and the occasional “accident” which occurs at their refineries. Yet, oil companies continue to post record profits year in and year out, for instance Exxon-Mobile posted a $40 billion profit for 2007 and racked up nearly $378 billion in revenues, which coincidently exceeds the gross domestic product of 90% of the countries in the world. Therefore I come to you, the American people, to unite and end this outrage.

It has long since been ingrained in our history, that if one does not fight for their rights, they will be treaded upon. Continuously our ancestors have stood up for their beliefs and freedoms, from the 1770’s until the late 1970’s the American people have revolted against oppressors who have diminished their liberties and livelihoods. Today, a new age brings upon a new oppressor, one in the form of corporations (i.e. Oil Companies). Corporations who have continued to condition our generation to be complacent with what we have and what they have given us. They have found a silent generation to tread upon, a generation conditioned to believe that their individual voice has no bearing, but this is far from the truth.

The American people have allowed the oil industry to take our hard earned money for far too long. Oil companies have and continue to use our money to pad the pockets of their officers (and perhaps our politicians) and in so doing they have been taking food from our tables and the mouths of our children. It has come to the point where the average American worker has to spend the majority of their pay check on gasoline in order to get to work and if we do not act now it is more than probable that you will be spending your entire pay check just to get to work. Furthermore, the cost of living has increased due to elevated gas prices…for instance, since gas prices are at an all time high, manufacturing and transporting of goods have increased, in order for those industries to maintain their profit margins they have passed the buck down to us, the American consumer.

The solution is something which we all have thought about, but now it is time for us to stop thinking about it and start acting upon it. Here is the plan: I am sure that several years back you received an e-mail asking you not to pump at gas stations which were supplied by a certain oil company, Exxon-Mobile, this email contended that by not utilizing Exxon-Mobile gasoline, they would be forced to bring down gas prices, therefore forcing the remaining oil companies to follow suit. Although this was a great idea, it did not come to fruition because no body followed the game plan. Now is the time to make it our duty to ensure that Americans unite and prevent consumers from using Exxon-Mobile gasoline. How are we going to do this, you ask: As of May 1st, 2007 (May Day) we will begin to picket in front of all gas stations which sell Exxon-Mobile gasoline and we will continue to protest until they cut their prices in half (currently at $3.60), unfortunately the oil industry will have to sacrifice its $40 billion of profit a year and settle for a measly $20 billion a year.
